Early Morning Fatal Wrong-Way Crash Closes Hutch In Rye Brook

RYE BROOK, NY — An early morning tragedy brought traffic to a standstill in Westchester County for hours.
Westchester County police continue to investigate a fatal collision caused by a wrong-way driver this morning on the Hutchinson River Parkway in Rye Brook.
At 5:08 a.m., county police started receiving emergency 911 calls reporting that a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes had collided with another car.

The scene of the crash was a half-mile south of King Street.
The first officers to the scene found that one of the vehicles was fully engulfed in flames. The driver of that car was pronounced dead. He has yet to be identified.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was removed from his car and taken by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.
The full circumstances of the collision remain under investigation by Westchester County Police Department patrol officers, members of the Accident Investigation Team and detectives from the General Investigations Unit.
Traffic continued to be diverted off the northbound Hutchinson River Parkway at Ridge Street throughout the morning. One lane of travel on the southbound side of the parkway also remained closed due to the ongoing investigation.
