Fire Crews Battled Truck Fire As Highways Were Brought To A Near Halt
High temperatures and a stubborn tractor trailer blaze tested firefighters and commuters Monday evening.

RYE, NY — The evening commute turned treacherous on Monday as a truck fire on I-287 near Port Chester required fire crews from across the region to contain it.
Shortly before 5:30 p.m., Port Chester & City Of Rye Fire Departments were called to I-287 eastbound near Exit 11 for a reported tractor trailer fire. The first to arrive on the scene reported a fully engulfed tractor trailer. Everyone was safely out of the truck, but it was clear this would be a long day for firefighters.
Port Chester, Rye, Rye Brook, and Purchase Fire Departments worked together to extinguish the stubborn blaze.

Rye Police reported heavy delays at the I-287 and I-95 on and off ramps in the city throughout the early evening.
The New York State Department of Transportation, New York State Police, the Rye Fire Department, the Port Chester Fire Department, the Rye Brook Fire Department and the Purchase Fire Department worked together at the scene of the tractor trailer fire. The West Harrison Fire Department was on standby.
