SPRYE Organizer and 9/11 Survivor Gil Weinstein Gives Back

Gil Weinstein helped save a life on 9/11 and is now dedicated to serving others, The Journal News reports.

The Journal News featured Rye resident Gil Weinstein in a features today about older Americans volunteering and giving back to their communities.

Weinstein, 85, extinguished a secretary who caught fire after the 9/11 attacks 12 years ago  and saved her life, TJN’s Brian Tumulty and Tania Savayan report. He is also a survivor of the World Trade Center bombing in 1993.

“I felt very strongly that I survived two major bombings for a reason,” he said. “I decided when I was able to, I would do volunteer work, work that was meaningful.” Weinstein volunteers performing Healing Touch therapy on patients at Greenwich Hospital in Connecticut once a week.
