Arrest In Fatal Hit-And-Run On Thanksgiving Eve On Long Island: Police

SMITHTOWN, NY — A Smithtown man was been charged in connection with the hit-and-run crash that left a woman dead on Thanksgiving eve, Suffolk police said.

Seth Miller, 40, was charged with leaving the scene of an incident with a fatality, according to police.

Miller will be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip, police said.

It was not immediately clear if he has legal representation.

Major Case Unit detectives are continuing the investigation, according to police.

Joan Foley, 59, of Central Islip, was killed while crossing Veterans Memorial Highway at 5th Avenue at around 5:15 a.m., police said.

A portion of Veterans Memorial Highway in Bohemia was closed from Remington Boulevard to East Suffolk Avenue while police investigated.

The crash was the second of three serious crashes over about 15 hours in eastern Suffolk last week. The first took place at around 2 p.m. in North Bellport where a bicyclist was struck. A 41-year-old Shirley man was also seriously hurt in a two-car crash in North Patchogue at around 12:35 a.m.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call 631-852-6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
