Drunken Driver Crashes Jeep With Her Baby Inside: Police
A 35-year-old Long Island woman faces a felony DWI charge after a two-vehicle crash Tuesday night, police say.

A 35-year-old Long Island woman faces a felony DWI charge after police say she was drunk when she crashed her Jeep, with her 9-month-old son inside, into a pickup truck Tuesday night.
According to Suffolk police, Danielle Smith was driving a 2012 Jeep Liberty west on Barretts Avenue in Holtsville when she attempted to turn northbound onto Waverly Avenue and crashed into a southbound 2020 Chevrolet Silverado that was stopped at a red light at 11:11 p.m.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Doug Viola, 25, of Holbrook, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Smith and her son were not injured.

Fifth Squad detectives charged Smith, of Farmingville, with DWI, aggravated DWI with a child passenger 15-years-old or younger (a felony under Leandra’s Law), endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated unlicensed operation.
Smith was held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Thursday.

The child was released to the custody of a family member at the precinct.
