🌱 DWI Crash Kills One + Brookhaven Town Raises Taxes

Brookhaven Town is raising taxes next year. And a DWI crash injured five and killed one passenger on the Robert Moses Causeway.

1. Patch reports that a Port Jefferson Station man won $5 million in the New York Lottery. Louis DeMayo played a scratch-off he bought in Lindenhurst. (Patch)
2. One person died and five people were injured in a two-car crash involving a driver charged with driving while intoxicated Sunday night. Michael Lupo, 23, of North Babylon, was driving a Dodge Charger south on Robert Moses Causeway near West Islip at 7:34 p.m. and the crash killed his passenger. (Patch)
3. A new Ecuadorian restaurant opened where Patchogue pub Blue Goose used to be. Tiesto's owner is the daughter of the longtime chef at Painters restaurant. (Subscription: Newsday)
4. The Town of Brookhaven's new $316.8 million budget for next year will raises taxes 1.89 percent and add three dozen jobs that were cut during the COVID-19 pandemic. The budget means the town can reopen senior citizens programs and recreation centers closed last year. (Subscription: Newsday)
