On the eve of the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, the Sachem football coaching staff honored the memory of that day by wearing FDNY and NYPD hats during their Saturday.
“It’s a very special day for our country,” said Sachem coach Dave Falco, whose father Tony, a Sachem school board trustee, was a New York City Police Officer for over 25 years. “We wanted to model for our team that [it’s] a day you really should focus on with your family and remember those who sacrificed and those who lose their lives. It’s a tribute to those heroes and those lost 10 years ago.”
The gesture made players proud to be part of a football program honoring a vital part of American history and the innocent people and heroes who died 10 years ago Sunday.

“It’s one of the biggest days in our country,” said Sachem senior Dalton Crossan. “A lot of lives were lost, a lot of loved ones. It’s a great thing our coaches are thinking about 9/11 and all the lives that were lost, while getting ready for a big game.”
