Man Killed, 2 Hurt In Crash on Sunrise Highway: Police
The crash happened at about 1:17 p.m., Suffolk police say.
UPDATE 8 P.M.: Police say Darrell Sumpter was driving a 2002 Cadillac westbound in the left lane of Sunrise Highway, just east of Horseblock Road, when the vehicle swerved and struck a 2021 Ford utility truck traveling in the right lane.
Both vehicles left the roadway and overturned at around 1:37 p.m., police said, adding that Sumpter, 51, of Shirley, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger in the Cadillac, a 48-year-old woman also from Shirley, and the driver of the Ford, a 52-year-old from Lake Ronkonkoma, were also taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The vehicles were impounded for a safety check, according to police.

UPDATE 3:45 P.M.: Suffolk County Police 5th Squad detectives are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in Shirley today, a spokesperson said.
Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on westbound Sunrise Highway between exits 57 and 58 at around 1:37 p.m., police said.
One person was killed and two people were injured, according to police.

BROOKHAVEN, NY — Westbound Sunrise Highway was closed between William Floyd Parkway and Horseblock for a two-vehicle crash in Brookhaven on Friday afternoon, Suffolk police said.
