AMF Smithtown to Rebuild After Snow Collapses Roof

The blizzard may have taken out the roof at AMF Smithtown Lanes on Saturday, but it didn't do enough damage for the alley to be closed for good.

Henry Streich, general manager at Commack Lanes, confirmed Wednesday evening in a phone interview that the Smithtown bowling alley would be "completely rebuilt."

Smithtown Patch reported Saturday that the roof collapsed Saturday under the weight of heavy snow, according to Suffolk County Police. Police officers responded to a call at 4:30 p.m. about the collapse and a water leak at the business, with officials from the Town of Smithtown, Long Island Power Authority, Smithtown Fire Department and Suffolk County Water Authority also responding.

Following the collapse, staff at the Commack Lanes confirmed that both the Commack and Centereach locations would accomodate the leagues that used the Smithtown location, and that birthday and other parties planned would be moved to the AMF's other branches.

Employees of the AMF Smithtown Lanes will be taken in by the Commack and Centereach sites, as well.

Streich could not confirm when the rebuild at AMF Smithtown would begin.
