"Donating blood is a quick and simple selfless gesture that makes a major difference, as each donation can save up to three lives," Smithtown Supervisor Ed Wehrheim stated in a news release. "I want to thank our personnel department, and Dineen Szczepanski who organizes this annual event, in addition to our Senior Center team! The Smithtown community has a proud history of working together to help those in need. Every year we see residents and town employees come together to give the gift of life. I’m confident that this year we will see even more participation. In addition to this event being a noble way to give back… who can pass up a box of their favorite girl scout cookies?"

A QR code is also included on the blood drive flyer for quick mobile access to reserve space to give blood. Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins will be welcomed. The town asked people to remember to eat, drink and bring their own donor ID card or ID with name and photo. The entire process takes about 10 minutes.

"Hosting a blood drive is a great way to support our community’s public health," said Doreen Perrino, program director of the town's senior citizens department. "Our successful blood drives would not be possible without the support of this wonderful community!"
