Board of Education Appoints New Member

The Board of Education appointed a new member Tuesday night, bringing the board back to seven members following the .

Chris Alcure, a Citizens Advisory Committee and PTA member, was sworn in by District Clerk Maureen O’Connor at Tuesday's . Alcure’s term officially began Tuesday and the term will expire at the end of the present school year.

Alcure said he wants to have a role in making the important decisions facing the district, including the possible closing of a school and the budget.

“There’s a lot of important decisions … and I want to be a part of the board to make these decisions,” he said. “Sitting in the audience I can’t do that.”

Martella, the former board vice president for the Smithtown Central School District, announced his resignation Nov. 8. .
