Here are the top five stories in Smithtown today:

  1. New York Primary Elections Day is on Tuesday, November 8, and the New York Governor candidates were campaigning full force Friday. Governor Kathy Hochul attended a Democratic breakfast in Brooklyn, and Zeldin visited Hudson River Park, where a jogger was recently sexually assaulted. Read the full story here. (ABC7 NY)
  2. A sewer line was laid underground on Lake Avenue in St. James that was not hooked to any treatment plant. Town officials said the situation might change with the plans to hook the line up with a plant at a condominium complex located a mile and a half away from St. James downtown.   3. Smithtown American Legion Post 833 will hold a ceremony at Veterans Plaza Main Street Smithtown on Friday, Nov. 11, at 10:45 a.m. The community is welcome to join Smithtown students, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and others to support and cheer the ones who served. (Smithtown Patch)
  4. Connetquot overcame Smithtown High School West Soccer in the county championship game. The game was decided on penalty kicks with a tight score of 3-2. The school district congratulated our team for its efforts in participating in the competition and for cheering our varsity on other games ahead. (Smithtown Patch)
  5. The New York Parks Recreation Department is hosting a Fall Scavenger Hunt at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park on Sunday, Nov. 13.   • The Fort Salonga Association (FSA) hosted the first Pumpkin Carving Contest this season. Officials announced the event would become a tradition in town. Legislator Trotta was the judge picking the pumpkins that caught his eye for their creativity. Winners were given prizes. (Smithtown Matters)
  • Smithtown Community Grand Table Tasting is set for Nov. 15. Tickets are on sale for the event hosted by Watermill Caterers at 711 Smithtown Bypass from 6 to 10 p.m. Find more information here. (Patch)
  • All Smithtown Public Library buildings will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11, due to Veterans Day. The library reopens on Saturday, Nov. 12. (Smithtown Public Library)
