SMITHTOWN, NY — U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas will be in New York in support of congressional candidate Michelle Bond’s bid for District 1, which is occupied by U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin, who is running for governor on the Republican ticket against Gov. Kathy Hochul.

Cruz, who has endorsed Bond, is scheduled to be at the Smithtown Elks Lodge located at 120 Edgewood Ave. from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

On social media, Cruz called Bond a "smart, driven businesswoman who understands the economy," and said she'll "fight to protect life, and she will defend the brave men and women of law enforcement.ā€

Bond a Long Island native, is a lawyer running on a platform of lowering taxes and reducing government bureaucracy to spur economic growth on Long Island, and wants to keep the community safe from economic threats, crime, terrorism and illegal immigration, according to her campaign page.

She believes her policy work in both the public and private sector and as the CEO of the Association for Digital Asset Markets, a private, non-profit, membership-based association of firms operating in the digital asset marketplace that developed a principles-based Code of Conduct, makes her the right representative for the district.

Bond is running against Anthony Figiola and Nick LaLota for the Republican ticket during the Aug. 23 primary, which is next Tuesday.

If she wins the primary, she would be up against LaLota, who is also running for the Conservative Party and Bridget Fleming of the Democratic and Working Families parties in the Nov. 8 general election.

Bond said on social media that she was grateful for Cruz's support for her election.

ā€œWhen they call inflation ā€˜transitory’ before it hits historic highs, [the] government isn't working. It's time for something new!ā€ she posted about her campaign.
