Driver Crashes Into Pole, Tree In Saint James; Charged With DWI: Police

SAINT JAMES, NY — A Kings Park man was seriously injured and later charged with driving while intoxicated after a late-night crash in Saint James on Saturday, Suffolk County police said.

Kody Whitton was driving on North Country Road when he lost control of his vehicle on North Country Road, struck a utility pole, and then hit a tree at around 11:45 p.m.

Whitton, 28, of Meadow Road in Kings Park, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

Police said he will be arraigned at a later date. The car was impounded for a safety check.
