Driver Injured in Overturn Crash in Smithtown

BREAKING: Firefighters needed to cut the roof off the vehicle to free the driver.

SMITHTOWN, NY – One person was injured in an overturn crash in Smithtown Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 3 p.m. on Nissequogue River Road, near Sachem Hill Place, police said. The Smithtown Fire Department was dispatched to the scene for a possible trapped occupant.

At 3:13 p.m., First Assistant Chief Diecidue arrived on scene and confirmed there was an overturned vehicle down an embankment off the road with the driver trapped in the vehicle. The driver was extricated after firefighters partially removed the roof.

The driver was transported via ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.
