- Five men were arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon in Smithtown. The incident happened on Sunday when a cop was driving in the neighborhood and heard gunshots in Nissequogue State Park around 5:30 p.m. A 2022 Jeep Wrangler was pulled over with five suspects who had a "ghost gun" recently fired. - Catalytic converter theft keeps rising in Suffolk. A crime of that nature was reported on Middle Country Road in St. James around 3 p.m. on Dec. 14. No arrests were made. You can access the Smithtown Police Blotter to check other police activity in the area. (Smithtown Patch)
- About $57 million will be invested in the new Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory for Neuroscience Research Complex. The complex will be an "empire" for studying neurodegenerative diseases on Long Island. Read the whole story here. (NY. Gov.)
- CVS and Walgreens pharmacies are limiting the sales of some children’s medication. Walgreens allows the purchase of six pain relief medications over the counter. CVS is selling only two per person. The shortage is due to the supply chain issues caused by the "tripledemic," which consists of the rise of flu, RSV and COVID-19 cases. (LI News12)
- A teenager from Long Island is fighting a rare disease. Lafora is a condition that affects only eighty people worldwide and consists of severe myoclonus epilepsy episodes.
