Harbor Country to Host Strawberry Festival for Children's Hospital

for the second straight year will host a strawberry festival with proceeds going to the Stony Brook Long Island Children’s Hospital.

The festival is set for Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The rain date for the festival is Sunday at the same time.

This is the second annual fundraiser Harbor Country organized for the children's hospital, and will be held on the school campus located at 17 Three Sisters Road in St. James. In its first year the festival raised $24,000 for the hospital.

"[Last year] we raised $24,000 ... this year we hope to do the same," said Christine Mcbrien, fourth grade teacher at the school and strawberry festival event chair. "We would love to meet or exceed that goal."

The event will include craft and food vendors, local musicians, children’s entertainment and games, tours of the historic “Tulip Knoll” mansion – the former home of WWII philanthropist Alice McLain, and tours of Harbor Country Day School. There also will be a “Strawberry Creation Throw-down," which is a contest for the best strawberry pie recipe, a strawberry shortcake eating contest and a children’s strawberry stemming contest.

"Harbor Country Day School is the kind of school that values good citizenship and we take pride in our collaboration with the Stony Brook [Children's] Hospital," Mcbrien said.
