
Kevin Michael Lenihan, 58, a resident of Glen Allen, VA, died on Friday, June 1, 2012 at his parent’s home in Smithtown. While just recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, Kevin also was battling back from a stroke last summer.Â
Kevin graduated from Smithtown Central High School in 1971. He was a strong student involved with the school newspaper, and active in varsity sports including football, baseball and lacrosse. He attended Hamilton College in Clinton, NY where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975.
Following college, Kevin’s professional career started at MetLife in NYC and later encompassed several other leading insurance companies where he specialized in claims paying operations. He retired several years ago as an executive at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia. He moved to the Richmond area in Virginia to be closer to family. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, boating, reading, gardening and served on the finance committee of his church.
Kevin is survived by his parents John and Margaret who reside in Smithtown, as well as his brothers Tom and John, his sisters Terry and Kathleen and their families. Predeceasing Kevin was his younger brother Jim, who also passed away from cancer on June 11, 2011.

Family and friends were invited to Kevin’s Memorial Mass at Saint Patrick’s R.C. Church in Smithtown on June 11 followed by a Celebration of Kevin’s life at a local restaurant. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, Development Office, 245 Old Country Road, Melville, NY 11747.
