Here are the top five stories today in Smithtown:

  1. Suffolk Police announced that part of Pulaski Road will be closed due to the Kings Park St. Patrick's Parade Saturday. The closure is between Old Commack Road and Route 25A. Cedar Avenue and Lou Avenue will also be closed until 1:30 p.m. The parade starts at noon and features floats, bagpipe bands and first responders. The Smithtown Patch has a guide with everything you need to know before attending the Irish celebration in the neighborhood. (Patch)
  2. The Smithtown Youth and Community Alliance wants to bring Gambling Awareness to the community. There will be a presentation at Smithtown Public Library on March 20 at 6:30 p.m. in recognition of the problem. Teenagers and adults are welcome to join the event. Students will receive one hour of community work for attending. (Smithtown NY.GOV)
  3. There are many upcoming March events at the Smithtown Historical Society. I want to mention the Model Train Show that will be held on March 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The society's Brush Barn will have train models and other fun activities. All proceeds will benefit the animals living there. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for kids. (Smithtown Historical Society)
  4. A teenager was fatally struck on Route 347 in Setauket. The 14-year-old was crossing the road riding a bike at 6:30 p.m. when a 2015 Dodge Charger hit him. First responders transported him to Stony Brook Hospital, but sadly, he was pronounced dead. Police continue investigating the incident.   5. Suffolk Police are searching for three women who stole $1,000 in merchandise from Victoria's Secret at the Smith Haven Mall. If apprehended, they will be charged with grand theft. Anyone with information can leave a tip at www.P3Tips.com. A cash reward is being offered. (Smithtown Patch)
