Long Island Author Releases Debut Novel Set on the Island's North Shore
Local author Chris Hoenigmann has released his debut novel, Bowen's Hollow.
Local author Chris Hoenigmann has released his debut novel, Bowen’s Hollow, a raw and introspective coming-of-age story set in the fictional working-class town of Port Harding, Long Island. The novel, available now on Amazon, explores themes of grief, addiction, heartbreak, and redemption through the eyes of Bowen Okai, a young man trying to rebuild his life in the shadow of personal tragedy.
Told with grit and lyricism, Bowen’s Hollow captures the rhythms and textures of small-town life on the North Shore. Hoenigmann creates a vivid portrait of a community both struggling and enduring. Much of the story draws inspiration from real-life Long Island neighborhoods, and local readers will recognize familiar echoes in its streets, restaurants and storefronts.
A graphic designer by trade, Hoenigmann wrote, designed, and illustrated the book himself, publishing under the independent imprint Abbot Road Publishing.

“The process has been really cathartic,” says Hoenigmann, who is opening up about his personal struggles with addiction and substance abuse for the first time. “I didn't start writing it with the intention of sharing it or publishing it or anything. But once it came together and I decided to share it with people close to me and I started to get some positive feedback, I started warming up to the idea of it. I'm really proud of the book and the further I got into the project, I just couldn't imagine not sharing it."
Bowen’s Hollow is available for purchase on Amazon and at www.bowens-hollow.com. Readers are encouraged to follow @bowens.hollow on Instagram and Facebook and leave reviews on Amazon and Goodreads to support the project.
