- A Commack resident was seriously injured during a block party. A firework exploded in his face around 10 p.m. The man's identity hasn't been released. He was transported to Stony Brook University with burns on his face. (Patch)
- The Smithtown American Legion will host a Wine and Chocolate tasting event on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The event is a fundraiser against domestic violence. Tickets are $30 per person and include salad, hamburger/hotdog, wine and chocolate, and more! Smithtown American Legion is located at 833 James Ely Miller. (Google Events)
- Attention all, Family Movie Night on the lawn at the Smithtown Public Library is canceled due to the weather conditions on Wednesday, Aug. 24. The event won't be rescheduled. (Smithtown Library)
- On Aug. 27 marks a year since the death of Long Islander Gabby Petito, and her father, Joseph Petito, asks the community to light a candle in her memory and honor those victims of domestic violence. Since Petito's death, the family has been helping others to escape abusive relationships through a foundation created in her memory. (Patch)
