Man Seriously Injured In Smithtown Car Collision

The man was waiting in a turning lane when his vehicle was struck, police say.

SMITHTOWN, NY — A man was seriously injured in a vehicle collision in Smithtown on Saturday morning, Suffolk police said.

Detlev Lindenberg, 78, of Ronkonkoma, was driving a 2019 Kia east on Route 25 and in the turning lane for Franklin Avenue when a 2015 Lexus exited left from a parking lot, at 360 Route 25, and struck the Kia at 8:40 a.m., police said.

Lindenberg was brought to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the Lexus, Albin Hass, 82, of Hauppauge, suffered injuries that are not life-threatening and was brought to a hospital, police said.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Anyone with information on the crash was asked to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
