Morganelli Sets West Shot Put Record, Places Second in States

The senior sets and breaks his own shot put record within two weeks.

The accolades continue to pile for senior Matt Morganelli as the student-athlete beat a personal best and school best throw distance in shot put, and placed second in state competition.

The senior broke the school record of 51-feet during the Long Island Elite Championships at St. Anthony’s High School with a throw of 51-feet 6-inches, also a personal best. His throw gave him third place in the competition.

It didn't take Morganelli long to set another personal and school best as he threw 52-feet 8-inches at the New York State High School Indoor Track & Field Championships at Cornell University to begin the month.

His throw at the championships put him in second place for New York public schools, fifth place in all high schools throughout the state. With the throw he became a double medalist in state competition.
