Olympic Hopeful's Fundraiser, Smithtown Library's Closure Wednesday in Smithtown

Events 

- "Light it Up," a cigar night benefitting local Olympic hopeful Le`Shawn Rodriguez will be held at  Five 2 in St. James at 6 p.m. Rodriguez, 2013 US National Boxing Champion, prepares for a run to participate in the 2014 Olympics. 

- Temple Beth Chai opens its doors to visitors as it hosts a Membership Open House on Wednesday, from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. 


News

- Smithtown Library's  Main Branch was forced to temporarily close when a utility pole fire cut power and cable to the building on Tuesday. 

- Congratulations to the Smithtown Arsenal U-16 boys team for winning the national championship on July 28. 

Traffic 

-Smithtown drivers heading should leave extra time to travel on Route 347 or avoid the area between Route 111/Wheeler Road and Mount Pleasant Road. 

New York State Department of Transportation has startedshifting lanes of traffic to pave the center median, starting the second stretch of the Route 347 greenway project. 

- Summer is the time construction peaks, as Landing Avenue bridge is closed for repairs. Drivers are being redirected onto Edgewood Avenue to take Route 25A north. Leave extra time if you plan on heading to the town pools.
