Overnight Ramp Closures Coming To Long Island Expressway In 2 Towns

The ramps are slated to be closed for approximately two weeks during nighttime.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Ramps on the Long Island Expressway in the towns of Smithtown and Islip are set to be closed for two weeks at night, the New York State Department of Transportation announced Friday.

The exit 53 ramps from the eastbound and westbound Long Island Expressway (Interstate 495) to the southbound Sagtikos State Parkway in the towns of Smithtown and Islip are slated to be closed on weeknights between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. starting on Monday. The operational improvement project is expected to last two weeks, weather permitting.

For access to southbound Sagtikos Parkway, drivers should follow the signed detour onto northbound Sagtikos/Sunken Meadow Parkway to Exit SM1W onto westbound Northern State Parkway and immediately exit onto Exit 44S for southbound Sagtikos Parkway, the department noted.

Motorists are urged to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of one's driver's license.
