Pedestrian Seriously Injured In Suffolk Crash

The man was struck when the driver of a Dodge Ram was attempting to make a turn, police say.

SAINT JAMES, NY — A pedestrian was seriously injured in a St. James crash on Wednesday morning, Suffolk police said.

Harold Day, 73, of St. James, was walking northbound on Lake Avenue at the intersection of Railroad Avenue when he was struck by a 2010 Dodge Ram that was traveling southbound on Lake Avenue and attempting to turn onto the eastbound lanes of Railroad Avenue at approximately 9 a.m., police said.

An ambulance brought Day to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the Dodge, a 52-year-old St. James man, was not injured, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the
crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
