Permits Issued to Repair Blizzard-Damaged St. James Lumber Yard

The February blizzard wreaked havoc on the vacant former home to Sider Lumber, and the damages to the roof and interior could soon be repaired.

According to the Town of Smithtown Building Department, permits have been issued to JJJ Enterprises, LLC, the property owner of the St. James lumber yard. John Bongino, director of the Building Department, said work could begin immediately.

"The interior portion of the building was demoed, the interior walls and some of the collar ties were cut and with that the building began to do that partial collapse," Bongino said.

The permit allows for repairs and an interior alteration.

The Building Department labeled the building "unsafe" following the collapse and prohibited any occupancy of the building.

Sider Lumber left St. James for its new home at 45 Southern Boulevard in Nesconset years ago, and Atlantic Property Services agent Jim Dunn told Patch in January of last year that the property is being marketed as a bundle with an adjacent vacant house and empty former antique auto dealer.

No one could be reached at Atlantic Property Services for further comment by time of publication.
