PHOTO: East Students Learn About Solar Plate Etching

Are you familiar with solar plate etching? You may not be but some of your children now are.

Students in Tim Needles' AP Art class were taught about solar plate etching by artist Dan Welden at Smithtown High School East. Welden, a former teacher at East, is a printmaker with more than 40 years of experience, penning books on the subject and working with artists from around the world. 

During the lesson the students were able to create their own piece.
