PHOTO: Nesaquake Student Strives for Geography Bee Scholarship

Trying to secure a spot in the National Geographic Society national geography bee, students from Nesaquake Middle School are competing in a geography bee of their own, with student Jacob Adelberg coming out on top.

The National Geographic Society offers a $25,000 scholarship to the winner of its competition, and now Adelberg must take the next steps to compete against the rest of the state, then nationally, to get it. Adelberg will have to take a written qualifying test and if he scores in the top 10 in the state he will move on to the state competition on April 5.

Student Douglas Goodwin was the runner-up. 

If Adelberg takes the state, he will be in the national competition, which provides an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. on May 20-22, an event that will be on TV and moderated by Alex Trebek. Other prizes for the winner include a trip to the Galapagos Islands and a lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society.
