Police Say Smithtown Nanny Stole 15K In Jewelry From Employer

A Patchogue woman was arrested Wednesday, accused of pocketing jewelry from the home where she worked as a family's nanny.

SMITHTOWN, NY—A Patchogue woman was arrested on Wednesday, accused of stealing $15,000 worth of jewelry from a Smithtown home where she worked as a nanny. The Suffolk County Police Department said in a news release that Amparo Hoyos Garcia, 69, was charged with grand larceny for allegedly pocketing the items between Dec. 22, 2021 and Jan. 19, 2022.

Garcia was employed for a family residing on Grassy Pond Drive. She also works for other families as a nanny and cleans homes. The Fourth Precinct said that anyone who believes they may also have been victimized by Hoyos Garcia to contact them at 631-854-8452.

Hoyos Garcia is scheduled for arraignment on Thursday.
