Wehrheim Wins Re-Election As Smithtown Supervisor

Unofficial results are in for Smithtown's 2025 elections, showing Republicans sweeping town and county offices.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Supervisor Edward R. Wehrheim has won re-election in Smithtown, leading a decisive Republican sweep across all town and legislative races, according to unofficial results from the Suffolk County Board of Elections.

Wehrheim, who ran on the Republican and Conservative lines, received 58.6 percent (12,283 votes) to Democrat Rosemary Griffin’s 33.3 percent (6,970 votes). Write-in candidates accounted for 8.1 percent (1,706 votes). Wehrheim, a longtime public servant and former parks director, will continue his focus on redevelopment, infrastructure, and quality-of-life initiatives.

Thomas D. McCarthy (R, C) re-elected as Town Clerk, earning 60.7 percent (12,569 votes) over Deborah J. Roberts (D) with 39.2 percent (8,122 votes).

Superintendent of Highways

Robert J. Murphy (R, C) re-elected with 99 percent (14,977 votes). Murphy, who ran unopposed, will continue overseeing road and infrastructure projects throughout the town.

Town Council (Vote for 2)

Republicans Thomas J. McCarthy (R, C) and Lynne C. Nowick (R, C) both won re-election to the Town Board.

McCarthy: 29.3 percent (12,126 votes)

Nowick: 29.0 percent (12,005 votes)
Democrats Michael Catalanotto (20.9%) and Jesse L. Phillips (20.7%) trailed behind.

County Legislature Races

Republicans also maintained control of all three Smithtown-area legislative seats.

District 12: Leslie A. Kennedy (R, C) re-elected with 61.7 percent (7,518 votes) over Deborah B. Monaco (D) with 38.3 percent (4,665 votes).

District 13: Salvatore Formica (R, C) won with 59.1 percent (9,285 votes) to Shala Pascucci (D) with 40.8 percent (6,398 votes).

District 14: RJ Renna (R, C) ran unopposed, earning 98.2 percent (7,541 votes).

The 2025 election further solidifies Smithtown’s position as a Republican stronghold, with the GOP maintaining a sweep across both town hall and county-level representation.
