  1. Officials from Animals Shelters on Long Island say some facilities are over capacity because many pets adopted during the pandemic are being returned at a higher rate than normal. Town of Smithtown Animal Shelter staff said some adopted puppies are now back in the shelter because their owners can no longer care for them due to their return to work. (Long Island News 12)
  2. Suffolk County Police Department will be at the Smithtown Public Library-Commack building on Wednesday, Dec. 14, for the Operation Medicine Cabinet. If you have any medication you would like to dispose of, bring them to the library's main lobby area. No registration is required. (Smithtown Public Library)
  3. The Smithtown Menorah Ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 20, at the Town Hall in Smithtown. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. Supervisor Wehrheim hosts the event with live music, free donuts and a gelt drop as a gift from the Smithtown Fire Department. (Smithtown Gov.)
  4. A Port Jefferson woman was arrested for driving the wrong way on Nesconset Highway on Saturday morning. Officials received a 911 call around 3 a.m. reporting that a 2020 Honda Civic was traveling the wrong way on the road. Police said the driver was intoxicated, and an arrest was made.   • A teen driver is facing assault charges for hitting two pedestrians intentionally. According to the police, the teen had a quarrel before the incident. The teens were taken to a local hospital to treat minor injuries. Officials said the driver will respond in court on an unknown date. (News12)
