- Attention drivers in the community, State Route 347 in Smithtown will be closed in both directions on Aug. 22 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The closure is due to drainage improvement work that will be done in the area. (Smithtown Patch)
- The Smithtown Department of Waterways and Conservation Board is reconsidering canceling the annual Fall Festival "Taps and Talons," hosted by the Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown. This information was released on Sweetbriar's social media page. Stay tuned for updates. (Facebook)
- Smithtown Performing Arts Center has its auditions open for the production "The Lighting Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical." Performers aged 16 and up are asked to show up on Monday, Aug. 22, to sign up at 7 p.m. Auditions sessions begin at 7:30 p.m. More info can be found here. (Smithtown PAC)
- Stony Brook University requests the community's help to donate to its food pantry. A community service day is being hosted this weekend. Donations will benefit the Harry Chapin Regional Food Bank and the University's pantry. A virtual food drive is also available for those who want to donate but can't attend the events in person. - A motor crash on Commack Road resulted in four arrests. According to Suffolk Police officials, the arrests were made concerning weapons charges. Police attempted to pull a BMW over, but the driver kept speeding down the road, eventually losing vehicle control. (Smithtown Matters)
