  1. Mary Flatley, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps Reserve, is working to inspire fellow veterans diagnoses with PTSD. The 45-year-old Smithtown native hopes her passion for poetry and volunteer work can improve the lives of others. From lending a hand at assisted living facilities, senior centers, the American Legion, and the Walt Whitman Birthplace Association, Flatley's dedication to Smithtown and its residents is apparent. On October 15, Flatley will also be one of 30 female veterans honored at the Cradle of Aviation Museum. (Smithtown Patch)
  2. The Smithtown Central School District announced three science research seniors at Smithtown High School East were named finalists in the prestigious NSPC Health Science Competition. Way to go Smithtown seniors! (Smithtown Patch)
  3. Calypso, a Mt. Sinai-based sailboat, "was hit by a rogue wave" in the Long Island Sound, "de-masting the vessel and injuring all four of the crew members" on Sunday. The sailboat was 80 miles south of Montauk when the United States Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod arrived. Despite heavy seas and tough conditions, all four crew members were rescued safely, according to a Facebook post from the station. (Patch)
  4. For a second year in a row, Patchogue Spring Beer Fest 2022 will take place Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Burgerology Patchogue, 11 Railroad Ave. This year there will be beers available from 50 different breweries! Tickets can be purchased ahead of time here. (Patch)
  5. Police in Suffolk County are searching for a pair of suspects who allegedly used a stolen credit card to spend more than $1,200 in items at Bed Bath & Beyond in Lake Grove. The incident happened at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, police said. (Smithtown Patch)
  6. Peter Domenichello, 55, of Hauppauge, made discriminatory remarks and tried to hit a man with his car last week. Domenichello was arrested on Tuesday afternoon, Suffolk County police said. (Smithtown Patch)
