- Madeline Henriquez, a Brentwood woman driving with a learner permit, was arrested for fleeing the scene of a crash that killed a pedestrian in May, police said. "Cherokee Fletcher, 28, of Commack, mother of five, was killed while standing on the sidewalk when a vehicle collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Moreland Road" and struck Fletcher. Major Case Unit detectives charged Henriquez with manslaughter and other serious charges. GoFundMe was launched by Fletcher's mother-in-law. (Smithtown Matters)
- Just a reminder: Smithtown Parking Violation Amnesty went into effect June 1 and lasts through June 30, all parking violations issued between Jan. 1, 2013, and Dec. 31, 2021, can be paid off with a 50 percent reduction on the amount of the outstanding fine. - The annual Member Artist Showcase at the Mills Pond Gallery in St. James features the work of 73 member artists from 40 Long Island communities, NYC and North Carolina, from June 4 to July 10. - Buntyās Jewelry, at 120 Commack Road, in Commack was broken into by three men at around 11:55 p.m. on May 16. The trio stole jewelry and are wanted for burglary, police said. - The third annual Babylon Pride event happens this Sunday and is expected to be the biggest yet. The car parade, which started during the pandemic, will have three floats and kicks off at 3 p.m. on Deer Park Avenue. Roman, co-founder of the event along with Bob McKeown, told Patch, "I tell everyone, come out and be fabulous. Babylon Village is your runway, so prepare to come and strut and be your authentic self when you come to Babylon that day." (Patch)
