- On Saturday afternoon, Stephen Napolitano, 45, of Mount Sinai, was seriously injured when he struck a 2013 Ford truck that was stopped in eastbound traffic about 1,100 feet west of Wireless Road in South Setauket at 2:24 p.m. Napolitano, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment. (Patch)
- With the second Manhattan station scheduled to open later this year, the MTA’s plan to end of direct service between Long Island and Brooklyn and of scheduled transfers at Jamaica. "That means commuters will have to disembark at Jamaica, walk up to the pedestrian overpass, over to the newly built Platform F on the south side, then go back down," reported Newsday. That could mean waiting 12 to 20 minutes for the next departure. (Subscription: Newsday)
- Luis R. Umanzor, a Brentwood man, was arrested for filing a false report stating he was kidnapped by three unknown men. He claimed the incident happened Thursday, around 6 a.m. in a parking lot on Veterans Memorial Highway in Islandia, police said. After an investigation by police, Umanzor admitted to lying about the kidnapping in an attempt to gain favor from his estranged spouse. (LongIsland.com)
- An inclusive new book, “Fire Island: A Century in the Life of an American Paradise” by British author Jack Parlett, advocates the "queer side of Fire Island by telling the history of the holiday resort through the eyes of renowned authors." (New York Daily News)
