- "Deadliest Catch" cast member visits Smithtown school. According to a news release, on March 9, Nick "Sunshine" Tokman, a four-year cast member of Discovery Channel's Emmy-winning show "Deadliest Catch," visited fifth graders at Acompsett Elementary School to offer some inspiration; he also spoke about the importance of persistence. "Failure won't break you," he told the students. "You all have a gift," encouraged Tokman. (Patch)
- Stony Brook to lead Translational Biomedical Research Network. "Stony Brook University will lead a new, innovative network of regional biomedical research institutions to accelerate translational research that will impact and advance clinical care for many physical and mental health conditions." (Stony Brook News)
- Long Island native Debbie Gibson to perform at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts as part of her "The Body Remembers Tour" on June 19. Gibson, 52, has sold more than 16 million albums and has starred in 17 musicals in 17 years, from Broadway's "Les Miserables" to the West End's "Grease," according to officials. (Patch)
- Maria's Mexican and Latin Cuisine of Nesconset does it again! According to the 2022 Bethpage Best of LI awards, Maria's Mexican and Latin Cuisine was recognized as having the best Mexican and best Latin American food on Long Island. The restaurant is located at 211 Smithtown Blvd., on the border of Nesconset and Smithtown. (Smithtown Patch)
- According to police, on March 9, a male stole packages from outside residences on Pine Hollow Road and Northfield Road in Hauppauge and Springdale Drive and Breeze Avenue in Ronkonkoma. The suspect fled in a waiting beige Toyota Camry. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers are offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-220-TIPS. (News 12 Brooklyn)
