- Smithtown Elementary School was visited with insects and their predators from Sweet Briar Nature Center. Students learned what makes an insect an insect, also the difference between a butterfly and a moth. Perhaps the most fun was had when students met the predators, a bearded dragon, which consumes butterflies; and an eastern screech owl, which consumes butterflies. (Smithtown Matters)
- The American Airpower Museum (AAM) scheduled its C-47 D-Day 'Living History Flight' Experience on May 14 (rain date May 15). You will fly on an original World War II Douglas C-47 Skytrain transport aircraft named 'Second Chance.' Book your C-47 flight by calling 516-531-3950 or 631-454-2039 (during business hours) or visit the Museumās gift shop Wednesday to Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Hangar 3, 1230 New Highway in Farmingdale. - On Monday, Doherty Enterprises (Panera Bread) presented Island Harvest Food Bank with a check for $78,200. Food insecurity has been exacerbated by inflation and rising gas prices, that is the reason Panera Bread "continues to support Island Harvest Food Bank and their many initiatives to deliver Long Island families from hunger," Greg George, Doherty Enterprise's Panera Bread vice president of operations, said.
