- This year, the Smithtown Memorial Day Parade is hosted by the Smithtown Fire Department. The Knights of Columbus, after 30 years of hosting the parade, opted out, according to fire department public information officer Rick Torre. The parade is set for noon May 30; it will proceed down westbound Main Street from Singer Lane to Smithtown Town Hall. (Smithtown Patch)
- Sixth graders from Accompsett Middle School took a field trip this week to the beach and the marsh at Sunken Meadow State Park, courtesy of the āThe Connect Kids Field Trip Grantā through NYS parks. Aside from catching some fish in the marsh, students conducted some scientific tests. Amy Olander, sixth grade science teacher, secured the grant. (Smithtown Matters)
- This week, the Long Island Regional Planning Council may declare a $2.8 billion redevelopment proposal in Ronkonkoma. So far, the project is supported by both Suffolk County and Islip Town leaders. (Subscription: Newsday)
- Ryan Walker, 37, was killed and Robert Kehlenbeck, 46, was seriously injured when a vehicle hit them while they were working on a pickup truck parked outside of Walkerās home. The incident happened on Express Drive South Wednesday around 5:29 p.m., in Holtsville, Suffolk police said. After the collision, the vehicle fled eastbound on Express Drive South, police said. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6553. (Daily Voice)
- Independent film screenings and special programming are back at the Huntingtonās Cinema Arts Centre (CAC), 423 Park Ave., Huntington. The cinema has reopened with a newly renovated space, after more than a two-year closure. It's now open for in-person programming, and tickets are on sale for a number of films; make sure to catch the Maritime Film Festival! (TBR News Media)
