1. Northport maritime heritage event takes place this Saturday at 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Northport Village Park and dock. Activities include a boat parade of 100+ boats, boats on display, seafood chowder contest, history exhibits and every child's thrill, marine life touch tanks! While the local restaurants compete in the chowder contest, three local breweries will compete for the best maritime brew. (HuntingtonNow.com)

5. Sammy Chu, of Suffolk County, was nominated to the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority board this year. Chu has an impressive resume that includes being the "Chairman of the U.S. Green Building Council-Long Island Chapter and CEO of Edgewise Energy."
