- Donald Goodwin, age 31, a resident of Port Jefferson Station, is facing drug and weapon charges after officers witnessed him engage in a hand-to-hand drug transaction, police said. The officers followed and pulled over the vehicle on Route 347, near Mark Tree Road, in Centereach at 3:07 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, said police. Officers recovered two handguns, a Ruger LCP .380 and a Burgo .22-caliber short revolver, along with more than $100,000 in cash and a quantity of fentanyl and methadone, police said. (Daily Voice)
- Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, many soldiers are being redeployed to new posts. The Guardians of Rescue, a Smithtown-based nonprofit is racing to bring the animals of the soldiers that are being forced to abandon the pets they rescued overseas. Robert Misseri founder and president of Guardians of Rescue said, "We are working to help many soldiers to save their pets, but we are overwhelmed with requests for assistance and we can't do it alone. - The Setauket history museum is getting a new centerpiece; a 19th-century barn that stood on an Old Field farm. The barn, named the Dominick-Crawford Barn, will be rebuilt inside a new $1.3 million museum under construction at the society's North Country Road headquarters, the Three Village Historical Society announced. The museum will include the society's archives, including papers from the families of developer Ward Melville and Revolutionary War-era Culper spy ring supporter Anna Strong, society officials said. - Two people were stabbed and shots were fired during a dispute in Central Islip on Saturday.
Police said a group was gathered on Clift Street when there was an altercation around 12:50 p.m., which led to a man and woman being stabbed. The victims were transported to a local hospital and treated for "non-life-threatening" injuries, police said. (Subscription: Newsday)
