- Let us all congratulate Alicia DiGiambattista, a sixth-grader at Great Hollow Middle School, who placed first in the Long Island-wide Walt Whitman Poetry Contest for her poem entitled, "Realization and Renewal." On May 15, she will read her poem aloud in Melville, at the birthplace of Walt Whitman. (Smithtown Patch)
- On Sunday morning, after a driver led New York State Police on a chase along the Northern State Parkway, Patrice Gordon, 25, of Selden, and Landre Simmons, 39, of North Babylon were arrested in connection with the possession of an illegal ghost gun, police said. Gordon and Simmons were each charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon (a C felony) and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (a D felony), police said. (Smithtown Patch)
