- Sunday, in Ronkonkoma, a Suffolk County Auxiliary Police captain assisted a neighbor in rescuing four dogs from a house fire and evacuated neighboring residents. Firefighters from Lakeland Fire Department, Nesconset Fire Department, Bohemia Fire Department, Holtsville Fire Department, and Hauppauge Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire. - On Friday morning, Terry Long, 32, a Ronkonkoma man, was shot outside his home when he went outside to start his car, went inside, and when he came back outside again, he was shot multiple times. Long was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook Hospital where he was pronounced dead. (Patch)
- According to Suffolk County police, Nicholas Thornton, 32, from St. James, was arrested in connection with a stabbing early Sunday morning in Port Jefferson. According to police, around 2 a.m. near Arden Place two men got into an argument that became physical. Thatās when Thornton stabbed a 20-year-old victim in the arm, police said. The victim was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released. (Patch)
- Police are investigating a crash that happened overnight leaving a woman seriously injured. The incident happened just before 7 p.m., Sunday, April 30 in Islandia. A passenger fell off the rear of a 2021 Yamaha Motorcycle that was on the westbound LIE near Old Nichols Road. Denise Chotalal, age 46, of Jamaica, Queens, was transported by helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. - Town officials announced, Town officials announced, Drowned Meadow Cottage, a house in Port Jefferson with ties to the spy ring that helped George Washington track British troop movements during the Revolutionary War will be reopened next month as a full-time museum. (Subscription: Newsday)
