2. The Smithtown organization, Guardians of Rescue announced in a news release that they are providing insulated doghouses to help dogs left out in freezing temperatures. "Every day we witness how animals are being failed by weak and ineffective laws," said Robert Misseri, president and founder of Guardians of Rescue, via news release. "We'll continue to advocate for stronger protections, but the dogs can't wait that long, they need our help right now." 3. Suffolk police are investigating a four-car crash that seriously injured a Brentwood man in Commack Saturday afternoon. Police say Maria Kopping was driving westbound on Veterans Memorial Highway when she attempted to make a right turn onto Jericho Turnpike. around 2:25 p.m. She struck a Nissan Rogue traveling east on Jericho Turnpike and flipped the car, police said. The driver of the Nissan, was airlifted by a Suffolk County police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. (Subscription: Newsday)
