- A Smithtown Fire Department spokesperson said that the Smithtown firefighters battled a house fire on South Plaisted Avenue on Tuesday afternoon and that the fire had extended to the home's attic by the time they got there at 3:08 p.m. No injuries were reported. (Patch)
- Steve Bellone, Suffolk County Executive, announced registration is open for Catholic Health 8th Annual Suffolk County Marathon. “The Suffolk County Marathon has become an annual tradition for runners and families not just here in Suffolk, but all across Long Island," said Suffolk County Executive Bellone. “Not only does this race honor the selfless men and women who have served, but it also helps to fund critical services that our veterans need right here in Suffolk County.” To register for the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K and 5K, please visit www.suffolkcountymarathon.com. (LongIsland.com)
- Paws of War successfully pulled off the holiday miracle for Sergeant Wayne, stationed overseas, and his family. Sgt. Wayne began nursing a puppy he found overseas back to health. He named him Branko. Wanting to make Branko a permanent part of the family he reached out to Paws of War, who successfully brought the puppy home for Christmas. (Smithtown Patch)
- During the holiday season, usually the last thing we think of is our pets' safety, but items like tinsel should be avoided as they may accidentally swallow and choke on the tiny strings. Never decorate your tree with edibles like popcorn or other food items and remove all edible gifts from under the tree. The Suffolk County SPCA has more tips to help you keep your pets safe during the holiday season. (LongIsland.com)
