  1. On June 15, we lost a young Smithtown resident, Isabel Carella, 17, in the Indian Head Road accident in Commack. Carella was a passenger in a Mustang that was driven by Dominic Crocitto, 17, of Kings Park. Crocitto "swerved to avoid another vehicle and lost control" and struck a Jeep Wrangler traveling in the opposite direction. (Smithtown Matters)
  2. An NYPD officer, Lina Ruiz, 40, was arrested Monday for allegedly stealing 10 boxes of flooring worth roughly $1,300 from the Floor & Decor store in Commack. She was suspended from duty after her arrest in Commack, according to NY Daily News. (Patch)
  3. Police said four people were arrested and accused of selling e-liquid nicotine to minors. Police said store clerks at Island Hookah in Sayville, Pop Smoke Shop in Bellport, Conoco gas station in Medford and Valero gas station in West Sayville all failed compliance checks. The four workers arrested were all charged for unlawfully dealing with a child. (Smithtown Matters)
  4. On Wednesday, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced that Suffolk County will host the inaugural Juneteenth Jubilee. Bellone said in a news release, "events like the Jubilee we are holding on Monday will allow us to commemorate the end of slavery and remind us that we must continue to work every day to uphold the ideals of equality for all." Are you a Smithtown resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2 percent when inflation is >3 percent
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164 percent (1995-2021)

To learn more, visit Masterworks.io, where Smithtown Daily readers can skip the waitlist.
