Smithtown Elementary Students Celebrate Flag Day: Photos
"On this Flag Day we honor our country by honoring our flag..." Smithtown Elementary Principal Janine Lavery said.
SMITHTOWN, NY — Smithtown Elementary students celebrated Flag Day on Wednesday. Principal Janine Lavery spoke from the heart as she addressed students and staff.
"On this Flag Day we honor our country by honoring our flag, and every day we should make it a great day by honoring one another, and our individual histories and contributions that make our country so wonderful!" Lavery said, according to a news release.
Fifth grade students led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by "The Star-Spangled Banner." The students also performed sign language during the Pledge of Allegiance.

Lavery discussed the importance of Flag Day and students' heritage. Then students sang "My Country Tis of Thee" and "This Land Is Your Land."
Members of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts assisted in the celebration.

"We all need to do our part to help continue to make America such a special place…treat each other with respect and kindness," Lavery said.
