Smithtown High School Cheer Teams Excel At Disney World

Smithtown High School West won a national championship for game day performance, while East made the semifinal round.

ORLANDO, FL — The Smithtown High School East and High School West varsity cheer teams rocked the "House of Mouse" on Feb. 11 and 12.

The squads competed in the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida, the Smithtown Central School District announced.

Smithtown High School West won a national championship for game day performance, while Smithtown High School East made its respective semifinal round.

Coaches Kristen Perri and Kayla Golub said the HSW team is the first Long Island team to win a Game Day championship.

"There truly are no words to describe how proud we are of this team!" Perri said. "Their commitment and love for each other was the strong driving factor of their success this past weekend. For a team that only began competing in the Game Day division last year this was a tremendous accomplishment and milestone for our program!"
