Smithtown HS West Softball Player Makes District History
Erin McDaid became the district's first overall Section XI Butch Dellecave Award recipient.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Erin McDaid, a senior and softball player at Smithtown High School West, made Smithtown Central School District history when she became the district’s first overall Section XI Butch Dellecave Award recipient, the district announced.
The announcement was made on June 8 at an awards breakfast. The Butch Dellecave Foundation, in conjunction with Newsday and the Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk, Inc., gathered the best student-athletes in Suffolk County high school sports to name the male and female High School Athlete of the Year.
"This prestigious award honors student-athletes who excel in athletics, academics and community service," according to the school district.

The finalists are named and recognized with an expanded presentation of their accomplishments on the field of play, in the classroom and within the community.
McDaid, a star pitcher and hitter, had a "fantastic" season for Smithtown High School West, leading the Bulls to the Suffolk Class AA Championship series, the district stated.
