  1. If you are looking for an outdoor adventure on New Year's Day, the First Day Hike is set for Sunday, Jan. 1, at 10:30 a.m. at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park. This event is rain or shine.   2. A special meeting for the Smithtown Library Board of Trustees is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 6:30 p.m. This event is open to the public and will be held at One North Country Road, in Smithtown. (Smithtown Matters)
  3. Police sought two men who allegedly shoplifted at Dick's Sport Goods in Lake Groove. According to reports, the duo stole approximately $730 in merchandise and then fled the scene in a Sedan. A cash reward is being offered to anyone with information that leads to an arrest. (TBR News Media)
  4. Many Long Islanders who were touched by Thomas Valva's story visited his grave during the holidays. Thomas was eight years old when he passed away. His father, ex-NYPD Officer Michael Valva was convicted of his death. (Patch)
